A Visit From My Brother

My brother and his girlfriend visited San Francisco over the weekend from Korea. I missed him, and it was good to see him doing well. This was the 1st time I met his girlfriend, Mina, and her first time in San Francisco. We did the touristy stuff like visit Twin Peaks, walk along Haight St., strolled in Golden Gate Park, then went to the beach. They both ended up going wine tasting in Napa too along with shopping in downtown SF, walking to North Beach, and visiting the Pier.

Tablehopper: Tartine Bakery Team Opening a Dream Project in the Heath Ceramics Building in the Mission
Tartine Bakery will open a 2nd location at Heath Ceramics (18th and Alabama) roughly 5 to 10 blocks away from its current location. They’ll sell pastries and also be a casual lunch spot. Hopefully this eases the long ass lines!

This is just what I had to eat yesterday. I skipped breakfast…oops! For lunch, I had pho over at Ben Tre.

CheesePlusWillieBrownBird

For dinner, I had the Willie Brown Bird from Cheese Plus. It’s a smoked duck sandwich on toasted dutch crunch with provalone, what looks like an arugula salad, and provolone cheese which is roughly $13 after tax/tip. Excellent sandwich as it tastes really fresh! Would I go back? Maybe if it weren’t so out of the way.

My current sandwich spot is still Ike’s which I have once a week. lol!

In between meals, I drank a Mega Mango from Jamba Juice. I’ve having a bit of deja vu with this since I think I’ve had it before and remember the same bland taste. There’s nothing mega about this! The popcorn was pretty good too, but I think it smelled better than it tasted. I’ll just stick to kettle corn.

I saw this posted on SFist this afternoon. They are doing some serious work tearing this building down so quickly. Kinda sad.

MoaR Music!

I’m fairly bored now with nothing to do, so I’m just surfing YouTube and finding old EDM or electronica music that I used to listen to.

Fatboy Slim – Right Here, Right Now

Raven Maize – The Real Life

I remember just downloading everything via Napster/LimeWire then on various torrent sites and coming across Fat Boy Slim’s You’ve Come a Long Way Baby album. I happened to listen to Right Here, Right now and got hooked! This was it, the type of music I wanted to listen to all the time. Searched for more stuff by him and found a remix he did of Raven Maize’s The Real Life which I had 1st heard on a VHS tape, even though DVD was popular at the time, of a Korean b-boy crew, Expression, owning at Battle of the Year in 2002 or maybe 2003.

Fatboy Slim – Star 69 (What the F)

Fatboy Slim – Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (Calvin Harris remix)

I used to listen to techno mixes since mixes of Ritchie “Plastikman” Hawtin, Dave Clarke, and other techno DJs and What the F would come on by Fat Boy Slim in some of these mixes. I remember being at EDC last year at Fatboy Slim’s set hearing him play Eat Sleep Rave Repeat then turning and saying, this reminds me of What the F!

Crystal Method – Name of the Game

Crystal Method – Play for Real (Dirtyphonics remix)
I liked it when Dirtyphonics remixed this a few years ago back when dubstep was coming up!

Basement Jaxx – Good Luck
Doesn’t this make you want to just get up and dance? Kish Kash!

Basement Jaxx – Where’s Your Head At
Everyone knows this!

Chemical Brothers – Galvanize
Almost forgot Q-Tip rapped on this. This track used to be everywhere.

Daft Punk – Aerodynamic

Daft Punk – Voyager

I guess Daft Punk is much closer to EDM that I was listening too. Voyager doesn’t get enough love. All of Daft Punk’s stuff is legit except for that last pile of crap they put out, Get Lucky included.

Everyone I know listens to the 3 above tracks and love it. Dash Berlin, as predictable as he is, played damn Sandstorm at POP. I can’t stand it.

11 Tips for Flawless Skin

BuzzFeed: 11 Tips for Flawless Skin

1. A clean diet, water, sleep, and exercise is the basics of healthy skin. Duh.

2. Makeup removal is practiced religiously. Korean popstar/actress Bae Suzy practices the 424 method. Four minutes of rubbing oil all over the face, followed by two minutes of foaming cleanser, and rinsing with four minutes of water. Cleansing with oil before using face wash is known as double cleansing.

3. 3. Cleanse daily, and exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a face brush. Foam cleanser is thought to be better for oily/combination skin while milk cleanser is better for dry and sensitive skin. Dab dry with a towel, or do like Suzy, and air dry by tapping gently with your fingertips.

4. Balanced pH levels are vital for clear skin, and toner does that, removes residue, and is filled with lots of other goodness. Go for alcohol-free toners as alcohol is drying (hi, hangovers). Apply it with a cotton pad or, as Suzy does it, with fingers to prevent needless waste.

5. Face masks. Paper masks are the most popular, but stars do use DIY recipes too. Korean actress Song Hye-kyo swears by an egg white and honey mask. She also uses an ice cube on her face to reduce swelling and slim it down. That’s just cold, girl.

6. Then comes a slew of treatment products that might overwhelm you: essence, serums, emulsions, oh my! Women in Korea have been known to use up to 17 products on their skin. A handy way to remember the order in which treatments are applied is from lightest texture to thickest texture of the product, because that’s the order in which your skin absorbs things.

7. Exercise your face (for real). There are an abundance of tutorials to be found online. http://www.fujisankei.com/melodee/2013/01/get-ready-with-me-skincare-nighttime-routine.html

8. The eyes are not to be overlooked. Skin around the eyes is delicate so always treat it with your ring finger, as it’s the weakest. There’s also under eye strips to ease darkness and puffiness.

9. Moisturize like heck. Down to the neck. Apply from the center of the face in upward motions — patting it rather than rubbing it will help it absorb. In her book, Go Hyun-jung also suggests warming up the moisturizer in your hands before application to encourage absorption.

10. And if it’s daytime, slap on that sunscreen. There’s a whole spectrum of damaging UV rays, and a diligent skin care addict knows how to shield from it all. It doesn’t stop at sun block. Many celebs don’t venture out into the sun without a UV umbrella or a wide-brimmed hat, as Fan Bing Bing has said herself.

11. Dehydration is the enemy. Facial mists are extremely popular to keep skin moisturized throughout the day.

Diet Cokes and Cats

I really have no interest in cats aside from the 1 clip that I posted. But yes, I had a Diet Coke recently. I’ve been on a recent binge on Cherry Coke Zero, and the Diet Coke was the closest thing to it at the time though truthfully it made me miss outings at food trucks.

I saw a picture that reminds me of a foot bone spur. It’s so angry! From Family Guy.

Bored….

So I started categorizing and tagging my entries here. Productive? Hardly since I only made it through the last 90 entries (basically just November 2013 & March 2014) or so out of approx 300 since I started here last November.

Things to do:

  • buy comfortable, light shoes to use daily
  • send my jeans to the cleaners to get fixed
  • buy oil and an oil filter for the car
  • get around to finishing season 2 of House of Cards or should I be watching that now?
  • schedule an eye exam and a dental appointment

Shaming: Ever Date a Hipster Who Thought She Was a Cat?

My reference to Clarity was when it was played at the Flux Pavilion show, and eeeeveryone was singing along except somebody. LOL It’s not embarrassing to be recognized in a crowd by someone, even if that person runs a food stand. All that means is I’m a regular. What’s embarrassing is…

Where do I even start? Sometimes when she’d be a little too hyper, I’d throw her childhood blankie at her, and she’d become completely distracted and paw at it as if it was a ball of yarn. Shower optional. She’d lick her thumbs then rub any dirty spots on her face though sometimes with a napkin. Sometimes. Lice in the hair. She’d stare at her comb which was her sign to comb her hair. On rainy days, the water would just bead off her hair leaving her head completely dry these days. Mind blown. Like any cat, definitely hates water, prefers a Diet Coke. When she tries to reach for something that’s high on a shelf, she lets out a “rawr.” Eats then goes back to sleep.
