Foodies…and Other Stuff
Vice: There is a New Wave of Foodies That is Dumber Than Ever
Just my thoughts to this article…Food trends have become one where it’s now a chef or at home cook who tries to mash anything together in hopes of getting some press out there even if the end product really doesn’t taste good. Once this trends, everyone has to go and try it which in of itself isn’t so bad. It’s when people, almost like sheep, just praise it because their favorite blogger or friend said so. There’s a difference between something that is good and something that just isn’t.
I didn’t mind the bacon trend a few years ago. It made sense as many people ate pancakes with syrup and a side of bacon. The sweet and salty worked, and so then did some versions of some type of sweet candied bacon. The Cronut was another trend that was huge last year. I tried a local version of it that was ok though likely not as good as the original. A co-worker graciously gave me a bagel that was also like a croissant which was terrible and made me question why this was even being sold. Some of these food outlets and chefs have no shame when it comes to trying to hitch onto a bandwagon to make a buck, and “foodies” out there embrace it even if it doesn’t work.
Now we’re seeing Pizza Hut try chicken finger crusts, Taco Bell with a breakfast waffle taco, and truffle oil (wait, is this made from truffles? Hmm.) on everything. Disgusting. This is just as bad as those places who charge $1000 for a martini, but I’ll save that rant for another time.

What DJs Do These Days…
This is pretty much the norm of what I’ve been seeing for the past couple years which is probably due to DJ equipment like Serrato making it far too easy for someone to mix a track and how the scene has gotten oversaturated in general. It’s probably why I get so bored with trance or what’s sometimes labeled electro-house (on Beatport) much of the time. This doesn’t apply to all EDM DJs since I hear Flux Pavilion, Hardwell, and Knife Party cycle through a bunch of tracks.
Still the 2 EDM DJs who I haven’t seen in a long time and impressed me the most are Derrick Carter and Bad Boy Bill. Derrick Carter would create a bunch of sounds like spin 2 of the same tracks with 1 being a half beat behind then flipping the crossfader back and forth to create an echo effect amongst other things he did while Bad Boy Bill was a former battle DMC DJ. Naturally the peak of DJ skill is with battle DJ whether through scratching, beat juggling, or other techniques that don’t quite lend themselves to EDM music. But it’s easy to tell who’s being lazy behind the tables without even actually watching them too. Funny video.

It almost feels like I can do a line right off my monitor. Fuck! In case, it gets flagged:

I finally got around to listening to Skrillex’s new album. There are a couple tracks I like (Ease My Mind & Try It Out). The rest of them were meh, but he still good live. I can’t say that I particularly like this track, but I was surprised to see who was rapping on it. 2 K-Pop stars G-Dragon and CL are featured on it.

I remember just downloading everything via Napster/LimeWire then on various torrent sites and coming across Fat Boy Slim’s You’ve Come a Long Way Baby album. I happened to listen to Right Here, Right now and got hooked! This was it, the type of music I wanted to listen to all the time. Searched for more stuff by him and found a remix he did of Raven Maize’s The Real Life which I had 1st heard on a VHS tape, even though DVD was popular at the time, of a Korean b-boy crew, Expression, owning at Battle of the Year in 2002 or maybe 2003.
